Responding to the Article

SUMMARY:

On Wednesday, Octocer 26, 2011, a man by the name of Ramdat Punwassie, discovered a python in his toilet in his apartment near Jane and St. Clair Avenue West. The man has claimed not to be scared by this slithery surprise. Not too long before this incident occured, a corn snake was discovered in somebody else´s apartment in the same area. Both snake are non-poison and have been collected by animal control. 


REFLECTION: 

If this happened to me, I would surely have been terrified! Not because I dislike snakes, but because this is clearly not conventional that you´d find a snake in your toilet. But I´d call animal control and have this dilemma dealt with.

What Should Nelly Furtado Do With $1Million Gadhafi Paid Her ?

I think Nelly Furtado did the correct thing by giving the money that the Gadhafi clan had paid her for a private performance in Italy back in 2007. It is understood thatg it was wrong for Gadhafi´s family, Libya´s former ruling family, to pay for her with the money of the Libyan people. But on the other hand, Ms. Furtado is a performer, and earns a living by entertaining an audience. The audience pays for that service. Where the money originally came from was not where it should have came from, but to Gadhafi, he was in charge, and he could do whatever he pleased with his countries money.  A good leader would not have done that and he/she would think about what he does and the consequences it will have on their country. 

The polemic is : was it right for Furtado to give the money to charity, or should she have given it back to Libya as it was the peoples money? Furtado, like a regular person, works and is paid. They usually have a plan to where their paychecks go. Some choose to buy useful things, or put it into savings, others may just splurge on a whole new wardrobe. It was Nelly´s earned paycheck and as soon as she was going to do with it. Unlike other celebrities that were also payed $1 million to perform for the Gadhafi clan, as soon as they heard about the connection, they donated it so they didn´t look bad fro taking the people´s money. But at the end of the day, it´s her money and she could do what she pleases with it and I think that it was very wise for her to make this excellent use of it.

How is This a Public School System

Summary :

This article is mainly about the social-economical discrepancies between in the public school system. It has been recommended to prohibit parents from donating to schools, and relying on the government for funding so the parental donations would not be needed.Or another suggestion was to take all the parental donations and evenly dividing them between the schools in the system. The wealthier schools also seemed to have higher provincial test scores than the less fortunate schools. Why do we believe that we should have equal health care, but not equal education.

The provincial curriculum should be available to all students without having to pay a single dime. No student should be excluded from academic activities based on their ability to pay. Although some activities may require recovery costs for the participation. Few long-term government investments stipulate better payoffs down the line. The significance of social imbalances, has always been debated. Meanwhile, no one stresses the importance of education.

Opinion: 

How is it possible, that the same students in the same school board, have such financial disproportions. It stuns me that it seems that it´s up to the parents to fund for the schools. Shouldn´t that be the responsibility of the board or the government. I agree with this article. The parents and other citizens and pay their hard earned tax dollars to make education free for children. But all that basically pays for is for the teachers to teach the students the curriculum. But of course, there are going to be workshops, or curriculum based school trips and since they´re apart of the curriculum, it should be funded by the government, not the parents. Parents pay for their children to learn at school and expect them to learn certain things. But it is understood why they are becoming vexed because they have to pay for other school related events. If it is so significant for the children to participate, then it should automatically payed for. 


Why is it that the schools in the rich neighborhoods, are better well off, compared to the other schools in the not so well off. That goes without saying that. The wealthy parents have money to fund their childrens´ schools where as the opposing doesn´t have as much and they´re not doing so well academically.That goes without saying ,¨the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer¨ If you have wealth, why not share it with the less flourished? Obviously, if the government isn´t helping, as parents, they should get together and try to equally fund schools so they each child has an opportunity to a justifiable education. If they rich were to trade places with the poor, I´m pretty sure that they´d like some economical assistance. So they should give what they have because as hard as it is to gain, its as easy loose what you have.

Would E-Learning Be Helpful in Elementary

E-learning would be great in elementary schools because, well, most children in elementary schools now a days, were born in the digital age; therefore making them ¨digital-natives¨. Technology is all around us and since it´s everywhere and we are going to have to use it at some point in our lives, so it makes sense for us to use it and know how to use it correctly. It´s also very convenient for students to use and since we are using technology so much in our everyday lives, students may find it more comfortable. 

But what about the students who don´t have computers or laptops within arms reach? Or those that don´t have Internet access? Then they´d be restricted. Also, it would be confusing for the younger grades because it might be challenging having to type out assignments instead of writing them out, browse the Internet for information, use forums/blogs etc. without the assistance of an older sibling who understands it or a parent. Therefore, not making it very helpful for grades 1-4 . Having that said, use of e-learning in classrooms with the assistance or lead by a teacher (e.g. smart technologies) would be beneficial for the students. When it comes to the independent part of it, it might be difficult. Why would we need teachers if we could learn from computers? But, younger students also tend to have shorter attention spans and it would be better to have a teacher teaching them then learning of a computer by themselves or without help or explanation from a educator. It would be more useful in starting in middle schools and working its way up to college and universities. Technology may be convenient, but not necessarily better.
